You’re not alone. The reason it’s hard to know what skills are needed is that the nature of work itself is changing. That uncertainty is actually a natural starting point. Part of the confusion comes from the fact that the impact of AI depends a lot on the sector you are working in.
AI is not changing all work in the same way. In some areas it automates routine tasks, in others it supports decision-making, and in some it becomes part of creative or analytical thinking. Because of this, it’s difficult to define one fixed set of “future skills”. A more useful starting point is to look at your own field. What tasks are repetitive? What requires judgment or human interaction? Where could AI support or challenge the way you work?
Across sectors, some capabilities are becoming more important. The ability to ask good questions, to evaluate AI outputs, and to combine your own expertise with what AI produces.
In that sense, the key skill is not to compete with AI, but to learn how to think with it, within your own domain.
